What $300,000 BUYS You In Different Countries
It's become a struggle and even an impossibility for some Americans to afford rent in New York City and San Francisco, much less become home owners there. But if your heart isn't set on the city, then perhaps we can open your mind to a few other places.
Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report introduced a list, 2016 Best Places to Live. Here are the top 5 cities along with median home values today, many of which are expected to rise:
- Denver, Colorado: $346,500
- Austin, Texas: $334,758
- Fayetteville, Arkansas: $229,000
- Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina: $175-207,000
- Colorado Springs: $228,800
Perhaps more interesting is a conversation sparked by reddit Somuch101, who asked "What does a $300,000 house look like where you are from?" Reddit users from around the world responded, some with photos of their own houses and others with listings of houses in the price range.
Take a look at the list below and let us know what you think!
#1. Manhattan, New York City
If you thought this photo was too good to be true, then you were absolutely correct. For $300,000, you'd be able to use this Fifth Ave condo as a timeshare, where'd you be given a designated week to yourself and 28 other days around the year.
#2. San Francisco Bay Area, CA
How do you feel about this vacant land home in Oakland? Well, it's all yours for $299K, even cheaper than our max of $300K.
#3. Valencia, Olivia, Spain
For $290,832, this 4-bedroom villa could be yours. This lovely package comes with sun terraces, a swimming pool, hillside views, and access to the main parts of town, just 5 minutes away.
We're not sure where in Iceland this is, but despite the high costs of everything else, this stunning property runs for 39,800,000 Icelandic Króna, about $325K in USD. It's 3,000 square feet with three bedrooms and one bath.
#5. Maumelle, Arkansas
If your dream is big house, small town, head to a lesser known place. This place has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and is estimated at $287,916.
