These Photos Of 1970’s Air Travel Will RUIN Your Next Flight In Coach.

Crammed to the gills on a recent flight, I took a look around and wondered how it had come to this. Flying in 2015 has become expensive and uncomfortable, and it seems like every year the prices go up while the perks go down. Flying didn't used to be like this, right? Forty years ago, it was a dignified and glamorous experience... or at least that's what we've been told.

Well, after a group of 1970s flight photos surfaced on Reddit, it turns out that the posh nature of flying in previous decades might be somewhat of a stretch. In fact, some Redditors argued that the images were actually "concept photos," meaning that they were used to illustrate how flying could be, instead of how it actually was.

Take a look at the images below: Are these a glimpse into a better time, or simply another PR technique?

Images of plane rides past often include shots of the guests lingering around the airplane, sipping cocktails and smoking cigarettes.

They also indicate the ample space that was once found on an airplane -- look at all of that room to stretch out!

Here's the truth of the matter: While some images were created to advertise particular airlines, some of these floor plans were actually real.

Like, for example, the Polynesian Pub: An actual cabin on some Continental flights back in the day.

And in fancier cabins, people had a real opportunity to stretch their legs and sit how they like.

So while these staged photos might not be 100% accurate, they do provide a fair glimpse into what it might have been like to travel in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Doesn't look anything like it does now, does it?

After seeing this, I think all of us travelers could use a drink at the Polynesian Pub, don't you?
