So Apparently You Can Accidentally Have Sex , And We’re Totally Not Kidding.
Sleeping is a time to let your mind and body rest. During sleep our brains process the information it received during the day, filtering out what it considers unimportant. This is also when the heart rate slows down and the muscles begin to relax.
Yet, not everyone gets to enjoy sleep like the rest of us. Some people suffer from parasomnias, a condition where abnormal behaviour occurs while sleeping. From sleep walking, night terrors, sleep paralysis, and even sleep aggression, every case and severity is different for everyone.
There is one condition that does not get discussed very much but still exists. Sexsomnia or sleep sex causes a person to engage in sexual activity while they are in complete sleep. Although, this condition may seem like a joke many who suffer from it find it an embarrassing and uncomfortable thing to live with.
Some people may argue they have engaged in sex by accident.
This usually refers to having a one-night stand or an encounter that was regretted as soon as it happened. Still, this is no accidental sex.
Sexsomniacs can truly claim they had sex by accident or didn't know that they ever did it.
Sexsomnia engage in sexual relations with their partners, friends or strangers without having any recollection of it in the morning.
Those who suffered from night terrors or sleep walking can also suffer from sleep sex.
Doctors say sleep epilepsy can also trigger a person to be sexually aroused at night.
Partners are woken up to being touched or the person having sex with them.
Some sexsomnia are simply aroused by touching their bed partners while asleep.
Doctors believe the same triggers that cause other parasomnias can be attributed to sleep sex.
Stress, drugs, alcohol, and sleep deprivation have been known to trigger sexsomnia.
