We all know how vitally important the relationship between a mother and her child is. When a mother loses one of their babies, their whole world comes crashing down. This isn't just true for human mothers, animal mamas feel the same way. This pit bull mother had her heart torn apart when she lost her babies, but just wait until you see what turned it all around for her.

Daya may look like a happy dog in this picture, but she hasn't always been that way. Like so many other dogs, Daya has a sad story to tell.

This is Daya, a three-year-old pit bull dog.

She was brought to a local shelter. While she was there, the staff found out that Daya was pregnant.

Daya was found wandering the streets in South Carolina.

That meant really bad news for Daya. Unless they found a home for her, she was going to be euthanized.

Unfortunately, the shelter was full due to overcrowding.

They found the perfect home for Daya to deliver her pups in, and it was time to bring her to the vet to get a check-up. What the vet found out would absolutely break Daya's heart.

Luckily, Halfway There Rescue took over responsibility of finding a foster home for Daya.

“Her nine puppies were in the process of being absorbed by her body. This had caused a severe infection in her uterus that required emergency surgery within an hour of her arrival at the vet hospital," rescue volunteer Jennifer Werner said in an interview.

Daya's x-ray revealed that she was carrying nine puppies, but none of them were alive.

Missing her babies, Daya started carrying toys and socks around the house and groomed them as if they were her puppies. Daya was noticeably sad about losing her babies.

The surgery saved Daya's life, but once she returned to the foster home, something in her life was missing.

The puppy was found on the side of the road covered in parasites and skin infections. She had recently gotten out of surgery to remove her badly injured eye, and she needed a mom to take care of her. Daya would be perfect for the job!

It was three days later, when the shelter received a phone call about an abandoned female puppy, that an answer for Daya was found.

After only a few hours, realizing they needed each other, the two dogs had developed an inseparable bond. The two are now on a fast road to recovery! It just goes to show how strong the power of a mother's love truly is.

The puppy, named Raisin, was brought to meet Daya.
