Albino Sea Turtles Are Extremely Rare, And They’re Cutest Things On The Internet Right Now.
After nearly 10 years of monitoring Vambizi Island off the coast of Mozambique, researchers have finally seen something they hadn't before: Albino turtle hatchlings. They tiny, they're pale, and they're basically the cutest things we've ever seen.
Conservationists studying the island found the two albino sea turtles on a nesting beach, along with three other little guys that had regular pigmentation. See the incredible photos of these rare reptiles below.
Researchers haven't seen turtles like this since they began studying the island. The oddest part about them is that they don't even have pigmentation in their eyes.
They were discovered alongside some other hatchlings, all with normal coloring and pigmentation.
Sadly, two of the rare albino turtles didn't survive, but the remaining pair seem to be doing as well as the non-albino turtles.
All the turtles were released from their nesting zone, and slowly made their way to the see. The researchers responsible for finding them are now digging deeper to see if any other studies have documented turtles such as these.
One thing is for sure: These odd little colorless sea turtles are truly amazing, and we hope they continue to thrive.
