'Divorce Selfies' Are Showing The World How To Uncouple In Style.
In the past, there was a lot of controversy and shame surrounding divorce. In the fifties and sixties, for example, people would often stay in unhappy marriages simply to avoid the societal shunning. As time went on, the stigma around divorce lessened, but the process didn't get any easier: Bitter custody battle, brutal financial litigation, and emotional mediations are all par for the course.
And while no one would argue that divorce should be easy, the 50% divorce rate certainly asks an important question: Is there a way to get divorce that's not all bitter tears and heartache?
These couples certainly seem to think so.
In a social media trend called the #DivorceSelfie, couples are proving that you don't always have to be devastated by your divorce. Seeing their faces and stories just might change your perspective, too.
It all started with this couple, who posted their #DivorceSelfie on Facebook. Their image and story got over 30,000 views, and it's hard to feel that their divorce is a bad thing, given the circumstances.
It also inspired other couples to do the same.
