Doctors Are Sharing Candid Photos Of Themselves Sleeping On The Job.
Doctors put in long hours and several back-to-back shifts to ensure patient needs come first. However, at the end of the day where they may have put in a 12, 24, or 36-hour stretch, they will get tired like anyone else. One resident in Monterrey, Mexico fell asleep at 3:00 a.m. earlier in the year while she was filling out paperwork.
A stranger took a photo of her sleeping and posted on a blog criticizing her. When Dr. Juan Carlos heard about the post, he took to Twitter and wrote, “I've also fallen asleep after operating on one, two, three, and even four patients on any regular shift.” He ended with the hashtag #YoTambienMeDormi, translating to “I too have fallen asleep.”
Doctors around Mexico and Latin America began posting photos of themselves sleeping and sharing stories of their long and exhausting days. The movement has gone global.
Next time you see a physician yawn or look bagged, remember, he or she may have been working non-stop for days and may need someone to show a little understanding.
