Rare Drone Footage Of A Very Unusual Whale Family. By 0:58 You’ll Smile Deeply.
Every now and then, people find themselves at the right place at the tight time and witness the event of a lifetime. That’s exactly what happened aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Safari boat when crew and passengers went out earlier this week.
Passing right by the boat was a grey whale with not one calf but two. To give you some perspective, Captain Dave, who has been running the expedition for whale watchers for 20 years, has never seen this before.
Typically, grey whales will only have one calf as caring for the young one is an enormous undertaking. Mother whales can lose up to 30% of their body weight nursing for her young as the milk it makes consists of over 50% fat. Add to this, the difficult 6,000-mile journey back to the Arctic, wrought with danger as orcas will frequently attack and kill the whales. Check out the amazing video, captured using a drone with an HD camera.
Next, here's what Captain Dave's drone captured off the coast of Dana Point, California last year.
