He Finds Stuff In The Dumpster. But Wait Until You See What He Makes With It!

California artist Gregory Kloehn used to create beautiful expensive art sculptures, but he became inspired by the small home movement and started making fully functioning houses out of shipping containers. Shortly after, Gary began making even smaller structures from trash and other things he would find in dumpsters, and gave them to the homeless people in his neighborhood. He calls them “little homeless homes”,  they are about the size of a sofa with a pitched roof and wheels so people can push them around.

Gary published a book called Homeless Architecture. For more information on how to make these homes or donate, see Gary’s website and his Facebook page.

“Before I was all about sculpture, but I realized it just sits there. And you’re just peddling it to rich people. I kind of think if you’re putting so much effort into something it would be nice if it did something.”
