3000 Years Of The ‘Perfect’ Female Body Teaches Us All An Important Lesson.
Women have tortured their bodies for centuries to fit the mold of what is considered beautiful and desirable at that time. The reality is that the definition of beauty is ever-changing. For example, one person may consider large bosoms to be the definition of beauty while others may prefer a more androgynous body.
Instead of trying to change into an impossible ideal that is constantly changing, its probably best to embrace what you have. Besides, there’s nothing more beautiful than self confidence.
BuzzFeed released a video underlining the ideal body types throughout history. Beginning with Ancient Egypt 1292-1069 B.C., where the standard for beauty was a slender body, narrow shoulders, high waist and a symmetrical face. However, in Ancient Greece 500-300 B.C. the commonly held view was that women’s bodies were a ‘disfigured’ version of a man’s.
The video clearly illustrates that women have never had it easy, living up to unrealistic expectations. From small feet to the celebration of heroin chic, one is bound to not fit in any category at any given point.
Perhaps the way to define beauty is not to define it at all.
