20 Famous People Who Overcame Failure To Make It Big.
As we grow older, it's hard to plan out our lives and then actually live it the way we envisioned. Some people have a grand master plan but unfortunately that is not the case for all of us. Some of us don't really know where we're going in life. We may start on one path but somehow end up on a different path later on.
It's especially hard to know what direction you're going in if you're experiencing hardship after hardship. After encountering bumps in our lives, it can be difficult to get back up and stay driven. It can be easier to strive for your passions, however, when you have someone to look up to who has done it before.
People who have power and success don't always come from such privileged backgrounds. A lot of the people we see on the big screen or hear about today actually came from humble beginnings. Did you know J.K. Rowling used to be on welfare? Or that Walt Disney once filed for bankruptcy?
It's okay to fail a couple of times in life, as long as you know the only way to go from wherever you are is up.
#1. Richard Branson
Richard today is worth $5 billion. But did you know that he's dyslexic? He has a reading disorder that prevents him from reading quickly and writing out words. However, that didn't stop him from building his empire at the age of 16.
#2. Vera Wang
This famous fashion designer wasn't a designer her entire life. Vera had actually attempted to make the 1968 US Olympic figure-skating team, but had failed. She later on became editor at Vogue and then eventually editor-in-chief. In fact, she didn't start designing wedding gowns until the age of 40! Goes to show age doesn't mean a thing when it comes to following your dreams.
#3. Pharrell Williams
Everyone knows the popular single, "Happy" as Despicable Me 2's theme song. But did you know that that when Pharrell applied for "Happy" to be the anthem of the movie, he was rejected 9 times? However, that only made him work harder, changing his approach to "feeling" the song instead of "thinking" it.
#4. Jim Carrey
This great actor has left his mark on many classic films. But before all the rich and fame, Jim actually used to live in a van. He dropped out of school to work as a janitor to help support his family. Jim attempted to start his career by doing several stand-up gigs at comedy clubs. He didn't give up and eventually became the star of several comedy films.
He even wrote a check to himself for $10 million before he made it in his career, hoping that one day the check would be valid. He made around $10 million from the movie Dumb and Dumber.
#5. J.K. Rowling
She is one of the most well-known, if not THE most well-known, writer out there. Most of us have read her Harry Potter novels several times and watched the movies just the same amount. Before she became the creator of the wizarding world of Harry Potter, however, she was a single mother on welfare that was suffering from depression. Nonetheless, she never gave up, even after her first Harry Potter book was rejected 12 times by publishers.
The Harry Potter series, today, has sold more than 400 million copies! Would hate to be one of those publishers that rejected her.
