This Is What Teamwork Looks Like For Whales, At 0:49 You’ll Be In Awe At What They Do.
Humpback whales are one of the most cooperative feeders in the world. They hunt using several techniques, but their most elaborate is known as bubble net feeding. The whales will circle a school of fish and then blow bubbles all around the ring. Other whales will make feeding calls to confuse the fish and bring them to the surface. On command from the leader, the whales ascend with their mouths open and consume large amounts of fish. As a team, the whales are able to capture far more fish than they would if they were on their own.
In the video below, you get a first hand look at humpback whales bubble net feeding. The rare sight was filmed off the beautiful waters of Alaska's coast by a GoPro affixed to a drone. The timing was perfect as it shows a bird's eye view of the whales bubbling and then coming to the surface in unison, collectively consuming thousands of fish.
Next, here's drone footage of an unusual whale family.
