7 People Who Cheated Death By Surviving The Impossible.
#6. Harrison Okene was saved by a mattress under water.
Okene was on a boat off the Nigerian Coast when it capsized. Eleven of his crew members died, but Okene managed to survive for three days by finding a large air pocket, which kept him alive. On the third day, he was discovered by South African divers employed by a DCN global diving company to investigate the scene and recover the bodies.
#7. Mauro Prosperi got stuck in a sandstorm in the Middle East.
Mauro Prosperi was one of the athletes competing in the Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands) in Morocco, in 1994. During a sandstorm, Prosperi became disoriented and ran the opposite direction. He wound up in Algeria in an abandoned shrine where he drank his own urine and the blood and guts of bats he decapitated, to survive. He began his trek again by setting his compass in the direction of the early morning clouds and following them. Nine days later, he was found by the Algerian military. He had lost 39 pounds and was 186 miles off route.
