This 83 Year-Old Gardener Walks To Work Every Day, But He Just Got A Lovely Surprise.
John Joyce is an 83-year-old Florida resident who earned his money from traveling to different neighborhoods to mow lawns. A few months ago, his 1994 truck died, leaving him with no other option than to walk miles to work every day.
Then, something amazing happened.
This story is one that celebrates the power of kindness and community, even when it's just about helping one person. See more of Joyce's story below -- we promise you'll have a smile on your face by the end.
This is John Joyce. He mows lawns in the neighborhood, and has cultivated a loyal customer base.
Robert Norton and his wife Nikki are two of his customers. When John's truck died, they decided to take action. The created a GoFundMe page with his story, and received more than $13,000 in just a few weeks time.
With the money, they were able to buy John Joyce a new truck.
When John graciously accepted, he couldn't help but have tears in his eyes. Robert Norton says that the time and effort it took for this to happen were well worth it: "People's needs don't arise when it's convenient for you, they arise when they have needs. John's needs didn't come at a convenient time, but we needed to help him. I didn't want him to have to wait," he said.
"I think it's wonderful," John Joyce said about the surprise he received. "There couldn't be anything better."
