He Built His Own Floating Island, And You’ll NEVER Believe What He Used For Materials.

He's a rugged outdoorsy sort with a homemade island and a beautiful woman on his arm: Richart Sowa might just be the closest thing to a real-life Robinson Crusoe we've ever seen.

Originally from the UK, Sowa now lives on an island that he crafted from 150,000 recycled bottles, a carefully constructed paradise that spans over 8,000 square feet and floats freely in the water. It's only 30 yards from the shore in a lagoon near Cancun Mexico. He's decided to call it Joyxee Island.

So, how did this sea-farer's eco-dream become a reality?

Sowa is a carpenter and artist. He moved from the UK to Mexico in the late nineties, after being married twice and having four children. For the last decade, he has been single and focused primarily on building himself an eco-friendly, floating island.

The structure of the island is wood and over 150,000 recycled plastic bottles, which Sowa has been meticulously collecting over the years.

On the island, Sowa has built a three-story house, three showers, a kitchen, and a bathroom that includes a dry compost ecological toilet.

The house is surrounded by palm trees, mangroves, fruit trees and edible herbs and plants, which all grow from the sand and soil that Sowa put in himself.

Though the finished product of his island was spectacular, Sowa had no one to share it with. That's why he feels especially lucky to have met Jodi.
