Officials Asked The Internet To Name This $375M Boat, Hilarity Ensued…
Recently, an online poll went up to name the Royal Research ship, allowing voters to cast in a ballot for the perfect name. Hilariously, the naming competition backfired when one man suggested a particularly unusual name for the vessel: Boaty McBoatface.
Former BBC presenter James Hand said he found the list of possible names "really funny" so decided to "throw one into the ring." It got 27,000 votes, and now Hand has had to apologize to the Natural Environment Research Council.
Here's a video of the making of the incredible ship that (no matter what happens) shall forevermore be known as Boaty McBoatface.
