Michael Jackson Might Have Looked Like THIS Without Surgery.

Most of us remember Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, as the powerhouse singer, dancer, and entertainer who brought us legendary, timeless hits. We loved Thriller, we loved Black or White, we loved Man in the Mirror, and we even loved that strange foray Jackson made into the world of the environmentally conscious (Earth Song, anyone?) -- but most of all, we loved Michael himself.

Sure, he was involved in some scandals (never proven, by the way) and what he did to his appearance was pretty shocking. But one has to remember that the Michael Jackson image created for public consumption wasn't actually him: The real him suffered from mental illness, a childhood full of abuse, and identity issues that we wouldn't wish on our worst enemy. Recently, a documentary has gone through Jackson's many changes, and even given us a look at how he might have appeared today, had he not had any plastic surgery. Check out more of the story below.

The breakout star of the Jackson 5, this little boy had more talent in his pinky finger than most of us combined. Little did he know that he was about to embark on a lifetime of successes.

But as he got older, Jackson was not without his demons.

He suffered abuse as a kid, and as he grew up, he started to question his own identity. At the time, mental illness was stigmatized in a way it isn't today (or at least to a higher degree than it is now), and Jackson's demands went relatively unnoticed.

But as he got older, Jackson was not without his demons.

Slowly but surely, he began to change his appearance.

Many of us remember this, the product of a lifetime of identity-altering surgeries and procedures.

But how did he get from this little boy to the man we knew?

It took years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve.

In the eighties, it was clear that Jackson was changing his face.

It seems that this was the beginning of an ugly and unstoppable addiction to appearance-altering plastic surgery.
