Canada is following in Finland’s footsteps. Since the late 1930’s, this Nordic country gives new parents a maternity box of essential items like re-usable diapers, bibs, thermometer, and a baby book among other things. When the products are taken out of the box, the cardboard turns into a crib which also comes with a small mattress.
Now the University of Calgary is starting their own baby boxes as part of their Welcome to Parenthood program. New moms will take their boxes home a couple months into the pregnancy. Researchers will keep in touch with mothers to study how they are adjusting to new life.
