But in olden times pregnant women were advised to smoke cigarettes. According to doctors, cigarettes helped to keep the weight of the baby down and also regulate the mother's bowel movements.

Back in the day, pregnant women were asked to see only delightful and beautiful things. According to some elders, keeping pretty things in their line of sight would ensure that the baby in the womb would be equally pretty. They thought whatever the pregnant lady saw would have a profound effect on a baby's appearance.
