They Lost Parents In 9/11 And They Just Sent A Powerful Message To Paris.
Fourteen years have passed since the September 11 attacks. The official victim death toll reads 2,977. Have you ever wondered what happened to the families?
Joseph Palombo was 12; Francesca Picerno, 9; Terrease Aiken, 8; and Juliette Caneldar, only 6, when they lost parents to the tragedy. Journalist Eléonore Hamelin asked these surviving sons and daughters to speak to Paris and victims of terrorism. Though different times and locales, both groups of victims have had to face the unique struggle of dealing with grief on a national scale.
Aiken, whose father worked as a computer consultant, opens the message with a powerful statement, “To the people of Paris: Keep spreading love.” The strength in Palombo’s eyes at 2:14 tugged at my heart strings.
We cannot pretend to understood the pain of those directly affected, but we can learn a lot from them. We can learn about hope. We can learn about resilience.
