Loyal Sheepdog Escapes New Home… Walks 240 Miles Back To His REAL Dad.
Pero is a four-year-old working sheepdog who left from his home in Cockermouth, Wales in early April. He was one of 15 sheepdogs living at the Cockermouth farm, so he was given as a trial to another family in Cumbria, 240 miles away.
Despite being well taken care of in his new digs, Pero decided that he missed home. He left the Cumbria farm and made his way back to his original home, much to his owner's surprise.
“It was amazing but we have no idea how he did it. He must have a [GPS] in his brain," said owner Alan James.
Apparently, Pero was able to use that homing instinct to make his way across 240 miles of space in just about 12 days, meaning that he traveled about 20 miles per day.
Eventually, he made it back to exactly where he wanted to be.
“A sheepdog can go all day and cover a lot of ground. But it is a mystery how he found his way here," James said.
“We don’t know how he was fed or if he hitched a lift," James continued. "But it was incredible when he turned up on a doorstep."
