This Giant Ray Asked A Diver For Help. You’ll Be Amazed By What Happens At 0:38.

For many of us, the ocean is a vast and mysterious expanse, and will remain that way throughout the course of our lives. There are a select few, however, who have dedicated their lives to knowing it more deeply.

Shawn Heinrichs is an Emmy Award-winning cinematographer, photographer, scuba diver, and marine conservationist. Many leading film and journalist teams, including Yann Arthus Bertrand and National Geographic, have reached out to Heinrichs for his expertise.

In this video, you will see Henrichs rescuing a manta ray that was caught in a fishing line. According to Manta Trust, these animals are close relatives to all sharks and rays, and have been designated as a vulnerable species.

Manta Ray of Hope states that manta and mobula rays are vulnerable to overfishing, regional depletion, and local extirpation. Mantas face dangers as bycatch and also from targeted fisheries in many locations, most prominently Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India. Sadly, not much is being done because very few people know enough to care. Though it is quite late, it is not too late for us to begin our education on these fascinating and completely harmless creatures.
