70 Years Ago He Sent A Letter To Santa… This Year He'll Finally Get His Presents.
David Haylock wrote a letter to Santa asking for gifts like soldiers, slippers, chalks, and “any little toys you have to spare.” The six-year-old placed his letter in his home’s chimney in Caversham, England, hoping the draft would shoot his request all the way to the North Pole.
It would take 72 years for a different kinda of Santa to see the letter. Lewis Shaw, a builder, found the note in the fireplace they were in the process of tearing down. Shaw took to Facebook to find the child that wrote the letter. Haylock, now 78 years old, came forward as the author.
Not only did Shaw reunite Haylock with his letter, he gifted him with all the toys that were on the list seven decades earlier.
Haylock remembers writing the letter with his mom during the war in 1943.
"It has been a very long time since I sent this list, but it has definitely been worth the wait, it’s amazing really."
The 78-year-old is excited to receive the gifts he requested as a child. "I am quite excited to open them now but I will have to wait until December 25, if I can."
