This Guy Tied Up A Model In A Shark-Infested Waters… And It Was SOOO Worth It.
People travel from all over the world to Fiji, particularly known for it's incredible shark dives. What most tourists don't realize, however, is that these animals need advocacy to ensure their protection.
Each year, sharks are killed by the millions, both for food and sport. One artist wanted to do something impactful to help raise awareness for this issue, so he did something absolutely incredible: Benjamin Von Wong created a series of images entitled Shark Shepherds, that involved a model actually tied to a shark, to offer some creative insight on how close the relationship between humans and sharks really is.
"Sharks are almost always depicted as menacing and terrifying, yet it is humans that are responsible for killing them in the millions just to make soup," he wrote on his website. " I wanted to create a series of images that would help break those stereotypes and show that it is possible for us to co-exist together in perfect harmony."
The resulting photographs are absolutely incredible, and we've never seen anything quite like them before.
"Finding a dive shop that would be interested in helping me transform my vision into reality was a huge challenge. Not only did they have to be available, they also had to believe that creating a shot like this would be possible. Although there was some interest, it wasn’t until a few days after I landed in Fiji that things started to fall into place," Von Wong wrote.
