Santa Delivered An Extra Special Surprise For This Deaf Girl.
Sadie Adam has been deaf most of her life. Every Christmas when she visits Santa, Sadie requires her mom, Ronelle, to translate for her from sign language to English so Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick will understand. However, this Christmas, one Santa Claus went the extra mile for Sadie.
Police Chief Salvatore Albert has been dressing up as Santa for the last 15 years in Westminster, Massachusetts. This year, with the help of Ronelle Adam, he learned enough sign language to communicate with Sadie.
The National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) estimates two to three out of every 1,000 children in the United States are born with hearing loss in one or both ears.
On the date of the visit, Sadie’s face lit up when Albert began signing to ask her what she wanted for Christmas. She signed back “a kitchen and a baby.”
Days later, Sadie looked at her mom and signed “You know Santa knows my name, right?”
