The Smithsonian’s Secret Storage Room Is Like A Scene From 'National Treasure.'
The fish collection has more than 19,000 specimens from around the world. The museum began collecting them in the mid-1800's.
The Department of Anthropology holds important historical materials from cultures around the world. 97% of the artifacts are in the collection room.
The Department of Botany acquired its first specimen in 1838. From then, the collection has grown to 1.2 million taxonomy of plants. They are available to see on the online catalog.
Over 1,500 dinosaurs are assembled and curated in the paleobiology collection. Around 40 million fossils are also stored here and are used for scientific research.
The Anthropology Department has two large Easter Island stone men, notice them in the very back.
