Kind People Stop Traffic To Help Anaconda Cross The Road.
We've all heard of the timeless joke "why did the chicken cross the road?," but for the first time, we think we've finally found the answer. When this couple was driving down the highway, they saw something that haunts millions of people's nightmares. While most people would run away in fear, this couple looked fear dead in the eye and said: "let's play."
While Italo Nascimento Fernandes and his wife were driving down the highway in their home of Brazil, they noticed something quite large in the road ahead of them.
As they got closer, they realized that it was an insanely big anaconda and it was trying to cross the busy highway. As soon as they understood what the snake was trying to do, the couple knew that they needed to help.
Not really knowing what to do, the couple did the first thing they could think of.
In an interview with The Dodo, Fernandes said: “We decided to stop the car and get out. There are no signs for the cars to wait so she can cross. I have seen snakes run over on the highway before, and think such thing is a crime.”
Fernandes and his wife began signaling to other cars, advising them to slow down in order to avoid hitting the massive snake.
Most people listened to Fernandes’ warning, but according to Fernandes, there were also “many people" who "quickly appeared and also helped." Most people would be far from willing to help such a large predator in its time of need, but not this couple.
But thanks to Fernandes and his wife, people were able to give the snake the time it needed to safely cross the busy highway.
Once the anaconda safely arrived at the other side, “She went into the woods and left. It was beautiful,” recalled Fernandes. You would think that seeing such an enormous creature in the middle of the highway would be almost unheard of, but apparently, it’s common.
According to Flavio Terassini, a biologist, the snake was approximately 10 years old and was most likely in search of shelter or food.
"These snakes can appear in the urban area in search of food, which are small rodents, and in the city they can feed on dogs and even cats, so it’s good to be careful not to leave the trash in the yard because these animals can smell the rodents or these animals and come close to homes, especially in the rainy season,” said Flavio. Well, we’re sure grateful not to live in Brazil because seeing a snake that big might just make us never leave the house again.
