She Makes A Living Selling Underwear, But There’s An Unusual Twist.
Would you wear the same underwear for 3 weeks for $5,000? Is that even a thing? Well, it was for Lady Kitten, a 21-year-old seller on SofiaGray, an up and coming site for folks to discreetly buy and sell used underwear.
According to her interview with Cosmopolitan, Lady Kitten first learned of the business by watching a particular episode of Jenji Kohan's Orange Is the New Black (OITNB), the one where protagonist Piper Chapman convinces her fellow inmates to give her their used underwear so she could sell it online.
Now, as mind-blogging as the series is, the idea of selling used panties wasn't born from OITNB. Collecting is a real fetish for some men around the world, most famously Japan.
Keep in mind that Lady Kitten's experience wasn't typical. She earned about $4,000 in her first four months mostly by drawing and maintaining the attention of one customer through light conversation (no, not like dating but she did share some of her hobbies and interests via email). He later brought up the idea for her to wear a pair of underwear for 3 weeks without a single wash.

A Market for Used Underwear
If asked whether or not they would sell their used underwear, the average woman would probably say, 'No.' (Some would probably even say, 'Hell no!').
But what if we changed the question to, 'Would you sell your used underwear for $5,000?' Now, this might change things for some people.
There are different fetishes around the world, and one of them is used underwear. Many of us associate this fetish with Japan, but it exists around the world. The question of why is another story, but we can probably think of a few reasons.
Used Panties on OITNB
As previously mentioned, 21-year-old Lady Kitten learned about the used panty business through the Netflix series OITNB. Here's a shot of 'Piper's Panty Monologue.'
"Ladies, now is the time to be bold, for when these men smell your panties, they are smelling your character."
How One Woman Got $5,000 For A Pair of Used Panties
Lady Kitten worked with SofiaGray for about six months and in that time, she built a rapport with one client who frequently purchased her items.
When introduced to the idea of wearing a pair of underwear for three weeks, no washing, in exchange for $5,000, she had to cringe.
There were plenty of reasons to turn the offer down, ranging from the risk of yeast infection to whatever one may define as self-integrity, but decided that she couldn't pass up the opportunity.
In the end, her client was plenty satisfied, but she admitted she wouldn't repeat the experience unless it was for a lot of money. She ended up putting the funds towards school fees.
Here's how the process works for buyers.
If you're curious about or interested in selling, here's what you'd have to do.
A look at the bigger picture.
If you're actually considering this as an option, remember that buyers will likely know the difference between genuine, fake, and even altered pieces (an example of altered is a pair of underwear freshened up with some sort of spray).
Oh, and we couldn't help but include Piper's infamous monologue. You have to give it to the girl, who was pretty damn passionate about the cause.
