He Found An Old Rusty Knife, What He Does Next Is The Most Satisfying Thing I’ve EVER Seen.
One of my favorite parts about traveling to Japan is enjoying how satisfying it is to watch Japanese people work their craft. Whether it's cooking, art, carpentry, or something else, there's just something about the Japanese that calls for them to be meticulous, precise, and thoughtful about the work they do. This knife-sharpening master is no different.
Knives are a huge part of Japanese cookery and culture, so knife-sharpening masters are highly regarded craftsmen in the country. In the video below, one such master takes an old, rusty knife and turns it into something you won't even recognize. You won't believe how satisfying this is to watch.
This is the condition the knife started in: It's rusted and dull, but the hardware is still very usable, provided it gets the right treatment.
There are several steps to the process, which involve a series of scrapings, buffing, and rinsing.
To see how he does it -- and to have your mind surprisingly soothed by the process -- check out the video below.
