This Fabric Company Is Turning Boring Taxis Into Works Of Art.
Taxis aren't generally known for their inspiring interiors, but one Indian taxi company is trying to change that. Mumbai-based Taxi Fabric creates cloth interiors with vibrant designs, made to cover the vehicle's interior and change the passenger's experience.
The company is a combination of interior design, advertising, and promotions, and the Taxi Fabric initiative is intended to feature local artists and in turn encourage more people to take this form of conveyance around the city. Taxis are known in this part of the world for being inconvenient -- this is one way to make the taxi experience more interesting for all involved.
From the Taxi Fabric website: "Taxis in India, particularly in Mumbai, are not only the most convenient form of transport but have also become an iconic piece of culture. Although much attention is given to each taxi by its driver – to make it stand out from his competitors – very little thought is given to the fabric used on the seats. The designs that cover the taxi seats are often functional and forgettable and with the outstanding design talent Mumbai has to offer, this shouldn’t be the case."
There are dozens of Taxi Fabric designs installed in cabs and rickshaws throughout the city.
The idea is to make riding in cabs a more compelling and interesting experience.
Each of the Taxi Fabric designs is more visually compelling than the last, all of them featuring local artists.
There are dozens of the artistically-upgraded cabs throughout the city -- how would you feel if you happened to get into one of these?
