She Makes Millions Of Tiny Incisions On A Sheet Wood, The Result…. I’m Speechless.
It's not every day that you see printmaking to this degree, and this project has been three years in the making. Carved out of a single woodblock over thousands of hours, Overlook is an incredible detailed woodcut print that will absolutely blow your mind.
The print comes from artists Valerie Lueth and Paul Roden of the Tugboat Printshop. The pair spent years drawing, carving, and testing the block for print, and now, it's finally finished and it's absolutely perfect. Tugboat Printshop will release 100 prints made from the block next month, and you can see the incredible process up-close-and-personal, below.
The process took artists Valerie Lueth and Paul Roden over three years to complete.
Here's a print produced by the insanely detailed woodblocks.
Titled "Overlook," the piece is a color woodblock print made from five plates, including four color blocks that define the colors of the image.
All of the blocks are different carvings, but together they create this elaborate design.
As each piece is printed onto handmade kozo fiber paper, the colors from each block add more detail to the single image.
When complete, it becomes a detailed scenic view of a mountain, filled with lush foliage and vegetation.
