They Bought An Old Van And Now They Live In It!
Everyone wants to travel the world but there's always so many conflicting factors. How does one travel the world without having to worry about paying rent or utility bills? If you're always on the go, what's the point of paying good money for a home you're barely in?
Adam Croft and Nikki Pepperell faced this exact problem when they were struggling to find a home that wasn't too costly. The idea of living in a car started out as a joke but began to sound better and more possible as time went by. Before they knew it, their "joke" became a real life project. The end result: a super affordable mobile apartment.
The couple wanted a large van that they would be easy to buy replacement parts for anywhere in the world. They ended up choosing the Ford Transit Luton Box van.
The Ford Transit Luton Box van also happens to be one of the largest vehicles any person can drive -- meaning you don't need a specialized license, just a standard driver's license.
Prior to any of the physical work, they designed the layout using Google SketchUp, a free 3D modeling software.
After they finished the design, they started marking the van in chalk.
After insulating the walls and floor, they added a layer of thin plywood and then a layer of pine boards.
The floor is laminate for now, but they might change it to vinyl later on as it weighs less.
