There is a commonly held belief that the best comedians are those who have endured sadness and tragedy; their jokes draw from personal experiences and often, their hilarious anecdotes of the past come from a dark place where laughter is a form of medication.
Drew Lynch is no exception. While playing baseball, the aspiring actor took two grounders improperly and was struck first in the head and then in the throat. He shrugged off his injuries and decided to sleep off what turned out to be a serious brain injury. He jokes, “I guess you're not supposed to go to sleep on a concussion. I know that now.”
Lynch took a negative and put a positive spin on it and is now the act to watch on America’s Got Talent. Howie Mandel awarded the young comic the Golden Buzzer where he will move straight to the live finals.
