Artist Elspeth McLean is Australian, home of centuries-old Aboriginal art work and culture. And though it might bear some resemblance to Aboriginal artwork (which is comprised of dots and vibrant colors), McLean doesn't draw inspiration from Aboriginal cultures. Her work is better described as colorful mandalas, a subtle nod to Buddhism and Hinduism.
Mclean creates these vibrant works by painting on smooth sea stones. She draws inspiration from nature, and describes each one of her painted stones as telling a story: Sometimes about travel, sometimes taken from a dream, and sometimes a simple look inside her life experiences.
