An Australian telecommunications company called Optus asked a very interesting question: What if you could compose a love song for a whale, then head out to the ocean to play it?
It might sound like an impossible project, but with the help of the Humpback Acoustic Research Collaboration, a group of musicians was able to travel by barge out from the coast of Queensland to play the song they created specifically for the whales. Using aquatic microphones, they broadcast it out into the water as they played. What happens next is absolutely breathtaking -- and it's not just because of the beautiful music.

Next, thousands of whales met near the Arctic Circle.
