Mary Ellen Croteau is a Chicago-based artist who uses non-recycled plastic waste to show the huge amounts of garbage we are consuming and sending into the environment.
The plastic caps in her art pieces are made from petroleum. This type of plastic doesn’t decompose and recycling it is costly. Croteau asks her family and friends to help by collecting their caps for her projects, which makes them aware of how much plastic they are consuming.
