Snails are often in danger of humans stepping on them and crushing them to death. Some samaritans came up with an idea to keep these crawlies safe by making them more noticeable to people passing by. They painted the snail shells with bright colors and designs using non-toxic paint.
While non- toxic paint was used, we aren’t positive that non-toxic paint is safe to use on snails. Furthermore, would this make them more attractive to predators? Some think the bright colors make birds and insects associate them with poisonous caterpillars. While these seems like a good idea to keep people from stepping on them, it’s messing with nature. Maybe moving them out of the way and painting a snail crossing sign is a better plan.
